unlocking files and folders on external drive help

January 24th, 2008, 5:54

hello there,

my laptop recently went bust,i managed to salvage the hard drive, and have purchased a akasa integral external enclosure so i can upload all my stuff on too my desktop.
Problem is, i had my account password protected on my laptop, and when trying to access my files it is saying " access denied ".
Does anybody know a way around this so i can move my files on to my desktop?

It should be easy to fix this by taking ownership of the folders and files.

With win xp you to log in as the administrator in safe mode I think. Then you click on my computer then select properties of the drive you want to work with, and then security, advanced, then owners.....check the box about replacing owners and apply.

Do a search in case the explination is not clear.

Its easier to do it with wininternals erd commander!
