PC3K DE and a Nand Programmer to recover a USB Flash Drive?

This may sound like a long shot or I may not know what I am talking about. Couldn't you read a nand chip with a good programmer, write that image to a hard drive, then use PC3K Data Extractor to reconstruct the data? DE is able to reconstruct a damaged translator. Just curious if anyone has tried it. Thanks.

No it wont.

The majority of memory chips in use used in digital storage media are called 'NAND FLASH MEMORY CHIPS'. These are linked to a mini-processor that utilises built-in 'wear levelling' algorithms - which mean that each block of data is written to or erased an equal number of times. So, when you write your data, it does not necessarily go in sequence and if you are overwriting a file, it will not go back in the same place as it was before. The mini-processor keeps track of where the blocks are and the sequences in tables and when accessed, presents it to your computer (or camera) as normal so you wouldn't know that anything different is happening.

You need specialist hardware to read any NAND FLASH memory (Including service area data), and software that recognises most of the wear levelling algorithms used by manufacturers so you can put the data blocks in the correct sequence and therefore recover your data.

PM me if you need something recovering.

Cheers

Sean

It was just one of those crazy, late night, over caffeniated ideas I had. I knew about the wear leveling but figured DE could reconstruct the data almost like a bad translator.

No ,
Each MCU Used Will Have its Own Sweet Way Of Storing the Data On NAND Flash Memory,so Not Possible Using your Method

Tell me about it!

They all seem to use different hideous methods of encoding the data.

Including byte-swap, byte inversion, striping across multi chips (or internally across multiple banks), block rotation etc etc...

Blatent plug mode = ON
I can offer flash memory recovery to all hddguru members at a special fixed price, PM me for details.
Blatent plug mode = OFF ;-)

We'd rather have some info about the techniques and equipment you use I think :D

Acelab are bringing out their own Flash Recovery PC3000 utility soon. You can read about it at the acelab website.
