Hi Friends,

I've got a defective Hitachi HDS725050KLAT80.
When it came in, the pcb was dead.
I had an exact donor, so i swapped pcb's and changed both nvram's on the pcb.

Now the drive is starting, but stays busy, while the heads make small clicking noises.
Not a hard click as when a head is broken, but small clicks as it is recalibrating.

Anyone has a suggestion to get it working ?

Thanks in advance,

Dobre

Hi,

Have you swapped heads as well to check if patient heads or preamp is not damaged?

No, not yet.
I'll only do that as a last resort.
BTW, i have not found a donor yet that is completely compatible.

I asked this as I had a similar case once, where besides pcb had problems with heads and the only way to find it out is by swapping heads.

some model of Hitachi have rom besides the nvram we know well already,so if its PCB is burn, you have to analyze the layout of the pcb for replacement.refer to the external view descriced in Hitachi chapter of 3k manual, please

He replaced both chips already
Please, read carefully. BTW if ROM doesn't match NVRAM drive will not even spin. If NVRAM has different SA coordinates drive will come ready instantly (with error). If SA coordinates are ok but NVRAM has different version than SA on the platters - drive will come ready shortly (with error). In this case drive is trying to read something from the platters but can't for some reason

This problem looks like media damage or bad heads for me

Hi everybody.

Has anyone still a working HITACHI HDS725050KLAT80 available?

I damaged the HD Contoller (The controller on the HD) by trying this one on another HD.
> Didn't work!

And now my HITACHI is also dead> Doesn't mount at all.
I'm sure, all Heads and disks are physically OK. It's just the Controller!

Would be nice, if somebody could help me, get a simular Controller for this Unit.

The HD is from APR-2007

On the Controller, I can read this:

OA29252
BA1739_
MAK707
H48D

I hope, this is possible at all? > To change Contoller, to make my HD bootable again?

Thanks for every suggestion!
