Barracuda 7200.9 stays busy

September 29th, 2008, 8:06

Hello everybody.

I have Seagate drive that makes one knock and stays BSY.

PC3K Terminal output:
Code:
Head Mask FFFF - Switch to full int.
              Spin Ready
Error Reading Application Code

F>

when I tried
Code:
F>j
and it says:
Code:
Application code incompatible with serial flash code
    Code - 76  Track 15873.0.01E  Sns 01E

Model: ST3500641AS
F/W: 2.AAA
DateCode: 06132
SiteCode: AMK

Any ideas weather it can be fixed with PC3K utility or does it need head/controller replacement?

Thanks for any response.

Application code cannot be read. Try using a loader.

That's a valid question: app code mismatch with flash ROM can indicate the board was swapped. You can try copying the ROM from same drive and firmware onto the current PCB but, if it turns out PCB is not original, always best to get hold of original.

I dont think this is a problem of pcb mismatch i think APP code is corrupted .

Thanks for all replies. I do not know if this is original PCB, that was my first thought when I saw "Application code incompatible with serial flash code". Will try to get replacement controller and check that (it is not very urgent). Otherwise I will use new drive to create loader and try it that way.
