File system corrupt after Transtable Regenaration

January 31st, 2009, 22:20

Hi Gurus,

I am in a between issue on a Maxtor 40GB Fireball 3 40gb.

what has happened is I have replaced the group A modules with another drive as just running a regenerating translation did not solve the issue.

The good thing is I have a complete backup original modules which were there before.

After replacing group A mods,I reran translation it worked but the files in there are corrupt.

(Probably some shifting has occured in the fs).

How do we fix this.

Any help is appreciated.

Cheers,

Not enough info.

Which "A" modules did u replace ? Are you stating the module or module group ?

if you do have backup of original SA, maybe will help, otherwise, you are in deep.....

Im going to go on a hunch from your other posts about this drive and assume that you purchased pc3kisa from china after having problems with hdd repair 2.0. Do some forum searching on why these drives report n40p in the first place and you will have your answer. Why did you replace all the modules with the sa from another drive? Why did you need to regen the translator? Did the sa-a or sa-b have bad spots?

thatdellguy,

Thanks for looking into the posts.

Yes I own a PC3000ISA not china made, first place. (PM me I will send you the details :-) )

Doing research using a unknown tool(HRT) is not bad atleast ,with out trying how one comes to know what is what??

Well how did you come to know that HRT is bad ,...by trying only right.

This case is not the n40P, this is a fireball 3, This perticular solution is in the docs.

That if replacing mod 18 doesnot work replace group A provided mod 33 is intact, pls refer the doc.(chances are group a modules are corrupt).

Any positive suggestions are welcomed.

Cheers,

Using PC 3000 ISA, you can edit the content of 0008-04b0.smb and make module #18 readable again. You don't have to re-write it using another donor module in the first place.

I just don't get it.

If you replaced all A modules then you may well have replaced adaptive information modules as well. There is no guarantee that you can re-write original modules successfully after original adaptives have been overwritten.
