WD1600BMVS-11F9S0

May 16th, 2011, 13:42

I have this HDD (WD1600BMVS-11F9S0). I came to me knocking. I have changed heads (twice, same error) and now i have a recalibration. But the problem is that HDD does not identify well. Model: WDC ROM MODEL -VENUS, no serial number, capacity MB(1). I have checked firmware. All modules are ok. I made a sector edit and i can see sector number 1, and it is ok but i cannot see anyone else (because capacity is in MB (1)). The PCB is the original one. Have you got any idea of what is happening?

That's really odd.

When you power on the drive, does it reach ready without spinning down?

If it spins, are you sure modules are all fine? Mod 11 is ok too?

Really odd...

Hdd makes recalibration and continues spinning after that. There are not strange noises.

Module 11 is ok, but i found now some differences between SA structure test (in Test-->work with SA) and Tools-->Utilities extensions-->modules directories. In the first test, modules 2d,2e and 103 have header problems. In the second one those modules are ok.

You checked that ROM is original, by manufacturing new ROM from image mods (109 etc...) and comparing with the existing ROM?

Thanks for your answers. I have rebuild the rom using SA information, but the HDD still have the same problem.I didn t compare the ROM that came with the Patient HDD with the regenerated one. I will do. Thanks again guys for your help!

If the modules are fine, that really looks like ROM issue, like Sean told.
