PC-3000s Wanted

We're looking for several PC-3000s, UDMA with data extractor. Full version only please, not portable.

If you have any please reply with details of quantity, age, current update version and any other relevant details.

To pre-empt the inevitable posts about it being 'illegal' to sell these - ACE Labs have no problem with private sale, but they won't support them once transferred to a new owner so it imposes a shorter useful life on the device as they become out-of-date and this is reflected in their second-hand value.

Cost and lead time. We already bought direct, and given the current financial climate figured there may be some used ones up for grabs. We're not using these for data recovery so we don't need the full support and update package the new ones come with.

Just out of curiosity and if you don't mind me asking, what are you using PC3K for if not for data recovery?

The PC3K provides us with a test report that's filed with each drive, which is then wiped and sold to the DR industry for parts through our partner. They'll be posting a list once they've all been tested an catalogued, there are several hundred to get through so it'll take some time.

We have a couple that we bought direct for DR use, but these are working flat out - just looking to pick up some cheaper used ones for testing.

Can anyone have any thoughts on whether the PC3K Portable would do for this purpose? Our thoughts are if we get the full version we can use it for DR if needed, I suspect we'd regret buying the Portable due to missing features.

I've seen posts on here asking what is lacking on the Portable but no definitive answers, can anyone enlighten?

* – Limited DE functions does not have functions dealing with complicated logical analysis of file systems. Only Quick disk analysis, Partition analysis, Raw Recovery modes are available there. Building map mode functions are reduced: building files map method and building map for marked files method is not available. But PC-3000 Portable and PC-3000 UDMA formats remained compatible which allows to use PC-3000 Portable as the second working place for long reading of problem hard disk drives.
