PC3K UDMA or EXPRESS ...

June 5th, 2013, 13:49

Hello guys,

I have to buy a PC3K with DE but i would like to have your opinion between the UDMA version available and the EXPRESS version available in one month ... The speed is not a problem for me ... They say the software is the same just the card is different, could you confirm it ? Do you know if they will follow the updates of UDMA (they say yes because it is the same software) ?

Any advice would be great ...
Many thanks
Alain

As it won't be released for another month, I suspect that nobody here has seen the express version. So, the only people qualified to answer your questions, at this point in time, are the folks at Ace. If the only difference between the products is the speed, I would suggest that price might be your deciding factor.

Thanks ... i have also heard something like this but the girl from the sale at ACE say no it is the same software than EPRESS version ??? That could be a reason to spend more money in EXPRESS version ...

I have not confirmed this, and I am not speaking on behalf of Ace labs, but rumors are:

    1. They will continue to support on UDMA for approximately 2 years.
    2. Express will have 4 SATA ports instead of 2 IDE ports. Therefore you can work with a greater quantity of drives
    3. Will support UDMA 133, therefore it will be faster than the previous model.
    4. Price will be approx. 150% of Pc3K UDMA.

Hope this helps!

Ace does not officially say that UDMA will stop being updated/supported. They also say the reason PC3K-PCI was discontinued was that it has been hacked/cloned by chinese clone. They also still sell UDMA, which means that if they suddenly announce end of life, many people will get angry.

Personally I hope they will still support / update UDMA for many years, but no one can be certain.

By the way, Express has 6 ports, not 4. 4*SATA + 2*IDE. But you can work with 4 drives at the same time though (ie. 4*SATA or 3*SATA + 1*IDE or 2*SATA + 2*IDE).

Price is indeed 1.5 times more than UDMA.

Yes you are correct, 6 ports. But since you can only use 4 active ports at once, I did not count the other 2 dormant ports.

I have PC3000 UDMA, recently bought a PC3000 EXPRESS. Their functions are the same, but more EXPRESS port. Maximum copy speed UDMA 133, supports 64-bit operating system, which is very effective to restore more than 3TB hard drive

Can you clarify "express" ports??

UDMA has 2 ata ports
EXPRESS has 4 sata ports (or 2x sata 2x ata or 3 sata 1x ata depending what you choose on startup)

there is no such thing as "express" port, he meant more port on "express" card
