What are the necessary System Requirements to use UDMA?
My "toy" is about to come, and I need to get a machine ready.

As long as you have a reasonable 32bit Windows machine, you're good to go. The more CPU power, system drive speed, and even RAM (you can get up to 64 GB in 32 bit using some Windows features), the better it is going to work. Data Extractor is known to be a little stressful in some situations, so just don't go cheap on your PC-3000 computers.

Running PC3000 here on a 16 GB @2400 MHz, i7@3.6 GHz seamlessly.

Why would it be dangerous? I can tell that I've been working this way for months without a problem. In fact, a single machine having up to 6 or 7 Data Extractor tasks (2 SATA hard drives connected to PC-3000, 1 USB Marvell HDD, and 3 or 4 offline recoveries with data copy, one of them mounted and presented as a Physical Disk for scanning with other software tools), plus a bunch of other different heavy tasks and running smooth and flawlessly is something I couldn't get before on 3.5-4 GB RAM machines.

I have to admit a BSOD happening once or twice, but the memory dumps didn't reveal anything related to this issue. Anyway, it's totally worth it.

It's not hacking or anything, either - in Windows 7 and maybe Vista/8 there's no need to in order to get those extra GB.

Don't you have to actually hack the kernel in order to get win 7 32 to accept up to 64Gb?

I don't think pure windows features can do it. I would not be doing that much with customers data on a single machine.

Must take a bit of maths to figure out the power requirements are met properly too. But if it works and you are getting good results, then that's great, Im just not sure I would be doing quite that much

You had to "kind of" hack Windows kernel prior to Windows Vista (Windows XP, for example), but for Windows Vista onwards it is a kernel feature known as Windows Physical Address Extension (PAE), which is just a tricky "switch" you can turn on "at your own risk". That is because old drivers or drivers programmed in a specific off-norm way will access memory pages in a different way that PAE would expect to, leading to system crashes or unstability. However, I've never come across such "bad" drivers, and I don't think customer data is at risk at all.
