Hello alimeci,
First of all, I would like to ask you what types of test did you do to find that there were bad sectors on your disk?
You could try using the WD Data LifeGuard Diagnostics tool
http://support.wdc.com/product/download ... =3&lang=enHave you tried to connect the WD external drive with different SATA cable? Is your hard drive new?
In order to be able to help you on this issue I need little bit more of information.
Could you please, upload some printscreens?
Thank you.

You need to image the drive (as SATA) and then decrypt it. Usually the key sector is at the end of the drive, so if this area is bad you may have a problem and need to fix it manually.

Hey alimeci,
Have you tried to see if the disk is shown in BIOS? Also, you can try your USB port to see whether it recognizes another USB devices.
You could find some support from the official WD website
https://westerndigital.secure.force.com/ind/?lang=en.
Please, keep us posted what happened with the tests. Thank you.

A backup copy of the key is sometimes stored in MOD 25. The actual key can be located by searching the user area at the end of the drive. For example, you could use a freeware disc editor (eg DMDE or HxD) to search the drive in reverse. If you upload a copy of MOD 25, then I may be able to help you. In fact I may soon have an Essentials drive for research purposes. Hopefully I will be able to come up with a DIY solution for those cases where the key has been corrupted or overwritten.

The key sector(s) would be at offset 0x200 within the module.
BTW, I believe that PC3K has a software based solution for your case.

Offset 0x208 (0x015D4Fa000) appears to define the size of the user area and the location of the SmartWare VCD. The key sector is located after the VCD.
BTW, if the drive is protected by a SmartWare password, then the key sector and its backup in MOD 25 will be modified accordingly. SmartWare also creates an additional sector where the password "hint" is stored.

How do you know that your drive is affected by encryption? You didn't tell us the model (eg Essentials or Elements or something else).
Which bridge chip is the drive using? If it's a Symwave, then perhaps it is using a different module to backup the key sector. In fact I believe that the key sector will begin with "WMYS" (= "SYMW" in little-endian) rather than "WDv1".
Why don't you upload your drive's resources?
