NAND CHANNEL configuration of Crucial C300 HELP PLEASE

August 21st, 2023, 1:51

Hello guys does somebody know the CHANNEL configuration for this SSD drive??
short story dead pcb and maybe dead controller.
i reballed and soldered the NAND chips on the donor pcb and finally i can turn in on with full id on pc-3000.... however some nand flash ID cannot be readed :(
Roman helped me with many advices and i did reballed AGAIN all the NAND CHIPS ... now only CHANNEL 5 cannot be readed ...i would like to reball it but unfortunatelly i cant figure out what phisical NAND is the CHANNEL 5" since on the PCb nothing is written"....
PLEASE if you have experience with same or simila ssd help me.... this is a crucial 128GB with 16 NAND chips

My guess would be back of the pcb nearest the gpio. I'd pull 1 nand and retest to see if anything else disappears. Until you've had responses from the chips previously you can't be 100% it's not just dead.

thank you for your kind answer. what is a gpio?

The 2 sets of 7 holes, and by back I mean side without controller.

Thank you Sir back side i see. you mean the NAND next to the holes is CHANNEL 0?
there is 16 NAND FLASH but onky 8 CHANNELS on pc-3000..... im confused

You can either wait for someone who has direct experience of pulling nand form a c300 or you can find out by experimenting. The chip you have labelled 0 is where I'd start.

If you remove nand you have marked 0 or 1 and recheck it will give you an idea of the channel layout.

thank you Sir^^ you are very kind. still i dont understand why is showing 0123 for each channel. according to you calculation channel 5 will be nand 5? im confused

Perhaps this will help, Channels =/= chips.

Again thank you very very very much for your kindness Sir
unfortunatelly the description on the link thats you gave me is generic..........

im still stuck :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :(

Show us a photo of the unpopulated PCB.

I would locate the Ready/Busy* pins of each IC. I expect that each pin will be connected to a pullup resistor. If so, then you can safely short this pin to ground (because it is open drain) while using PC3000 to scan for IDs. This should tell you which chip(s) is/are associated with a particular channel.

Sir you mean a picture of the PCB without NAND FLASH on it?

This is my guess for the Ready/Busy* logic.

NAND_Ready-Busy_Pullup_Resistor.jpg

I would confirm that the 1.8V end of the resistor is indeed at 1.8V. You could do this on the unpopulated PCB. There is also a 1.8V test point which you could use for this purpose.

Also confirm that the other end of the resistor (X) is indeed connected to the NAND's R/B* pin (continuity test on multimeter).

If all is OK, you can then short point X to ground during the ID check in PC3000. I expect that the corresponding channel will fail to ID, in which case this method should narrow down your candidates to 2.

Sir you are amazing^^
but unfortunatelly you speaking to a newbie :( :(
lets see if i undertood correctly lol

1 : should i check the resistor with the multimeter"continuity mode of the DONOR OR PATIENT SSD?
should i do continuity mode check with the SSD POWERED OR NON POWERED?

2 : should i short point X to ground with the tweezers? where is the ground?

i really apologize for all my persistent questions....
thank you very much for the time you spending for reading and writing here.

1. Check continuity on either donor or patient while powered off. It's probably better to do this on the 200 ohms range of your meter.

2. Ground is any screw hole. You can make a tiny probe with one end wired to ground and the other end wired to a sharp pointer. Then you can touch the pointer to point X while you are running your PC3000 ID check. Tweezers would be too big and risky.

Sir on the side of the controller i got 5V......

That means I'm wrong. What about the other side? Does it connect to R/B*?
