Hello Guys

I received one WD5000KS-00MNB0 500GB Marvell Zeus with damaged pcb. I was able to copy the ROM and ROM modules from the patient pcb. After that I copy ROM to a compatible donor pcb. The drive made the click noise 3 times and the keep spinning, never stops and never become ready state.
I have a compatible working donor drive and was able to do a hot swap and saved all the modules and tracks from patient.

Next step was trying to do a smart hot swap. The microjogs ware close so I try it and fallow all the procedures for the smart swap but finely when I tried to do the "standby" command the drive power off and on again.

after this tried to copy each module individually to see if it was because of some module. I saw that with the modules 03 and 31(translator) the drive do the power off when I use "standby" command. Other thing I noticed as soon I copy the adaptive modules from patient to the donor drive he start doing a power with a lag of 1min. With all the other modules the drive can perform the "standby" command. I know without the original 03 and adaptive modules I could not read sectors.

After this I tried to remove head by head(0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7) in ROM heads map and removing the number 7 the drive become in ready state. Opened a task and made the heads map, remove the number 7 and was able to read well the first 220.000 sectors, after this in giving me error in all heads.

Do you guys already saw something like this? any ideas why the standby command is not working with all the modules from patient?
Any ideas on what to do now?

Thanks :)

Hello,

If you turn off head 7 translator won´t load correctly, so i think that is why you can only read some few sectors. Seems to be a head 7 problem. May be, if you wait some time after the HDD stop clicking you can reach ready state and do RAM head map procedure.

Best Regards, F

i think he did a head map in DE with patient drive, than performed a smart hot-swap.

Zeus do not perform well stand-by if there is something demaged in some modules, did u try to see in ALL modules if there is DE-AD pattern?

It sounds like head map in DE was made, but:

this is typical of cases where head map is not native.

But this:

leads me to believe the problem is somewhere else than heads anyway

Can you get access to SA without hotswap? Short circuit maybe?

I read from each copy of the modules individually and all the modules are working fine.

I tried to use short circuit but the drive just power off and immediately power on again.

Running out of ideas.. Any more procedures you know that I could try?

Thanks
