Thanks for that..

Changed heads twice with the same error. First set of heads died after 20mins of trying set everything up in pc3k.
The biggest problem on this one is I think head 7 eventually gets killed and so looking like a surface issue.

Even in microscope i cannot see bad scratches.

The firmware checks out all GREEN.

Brandnew heads looks like is going to die also soon (faint high pitch when h7 is enabled).

I cannot regenerate the translator because of that error. Hence no access to data even though SA Data checkout out all good. Any attempt to on lba access will yield ERR & ABRT.

good thing is its training. what sux is i suck @ the moment.

Could this be a give up case?

It's possible to read from good heads and even tough that surface is not good, you might get a lot of data.

Yup. Took a different drive to get successful hotswap.

Had somewhat success in partially reading the Folders.

I can really hear the heads struggle when it tries to image. Even with selective heads (turning off faulty one)

High pitch became singing after a few minutes. This is a tough one cos this time donor pcb stopped responding and became damaged. Probably the mcu has died as i can hear preamps faint klk klk klk klk and motor wont spin.

Changed to another donor pcb with fully rebuilt roms,

Patient drive powered up again.. but as I expected heads&preamp is becoming faulty already.

After about 15minutes while DE is trying to slowly image, the high pitch became loud FAAH in the key of F#, and thats when i know heads/preamp is killed again. (wont become ready, but clicks.)

How frustrating!

Hi.

Yup i tried disabling faulty heads.

What I am thinking is that, the high pitch i am hearing could be a bad enough scratched surface from one of the bottom 2 platters, when it spins past SA area into some data. Can't properly see it in the labs microscope.

ps-^ instructor is not available for a week or two.
