Dear Gurus

We already have PC-3000 UDMA w DE but we are also doing a market research on spotting any alternative tools.
We have seen Dolphin's DFL-DE and new DFL-Data Dr. Pro USB 3.0.

Have anyone experience comparing the two tools?
Cases that you can cover with one and not with the other?

What we have seen is that Dolphin's tools are less expensive and they do not have maintenance cost for software updates.

Any information shared, appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Solely based on a brief website search, one thing that I am still struggling to understand clearly is whether the DFL tool for firmware repair is a tool/unit that supports working with all drive manufacturers, such as WD, Toshiba, Seagate, Hitachi, etc.. OR is there is a unit specifically working only with WD drives, Seagate drives, Hitachi drives, etc... similar to SalvationData line of products?

Maybe you can clarify for me...

Hi, from what I have seen there is only one tool dedicated to firmware and it is for WD drives. Other tool is for imaging with some firmware solutions, see link bellow.

I'm really interested in the answer too, because right now the price for pc3k + data extractor is around 7k €, so I hope there will be good alternatives.

Hello guys,

I have the udma+de too and I am also using the dolphin's tools dfl-de and dfl-wdII.

the DFL-DE is one USB2.0 imager, the version 1.35 is very good but the problem is its imaging speed. The dfl-data dr. pro is based on the dfl-de but different hardware and much more fast as claimed, I am waiting to upgrade my 2.0 to the 3.0 by one exchange which is offered by dolphin.

Both the 2.0 and 3.0 tools can fix some common hdd failures of Seagate, WD and Samsung, this is what they are different from other imagers. Many other functions of imaging and file extraction are similar with others' like the UDMA DE but slower than DE. I will test the 3.0 and let you know once I have it.

Dolphin has only one firmware repair tool on WD drives only, that's their dfl-wdII. But I really like this tool and it's the best wd firmware repair tool I have ever used. I think many other users using this tool agree with me.

This is a very good description of the DFL DE from Dolphin. I find that the new program is good but like you say it is very slow. It has two ports ATA0 and ATA1 but you can not image to the two ports like on the PC3K DE. If you put drive on ATA0 then you image to a drive on your computer. If you put drive on ATA1 you also image to drive on your computer. I find this very slow and takes a longer time to image like this one. I still use all imaging on two other tools which is quicker and does a good imaging job.

The DFL WDII is a good tool. They are still improving this tool and fixing the bugs in the program. One thing is this DFL is working on improving their tools where SD is no longer concerned about their tools at all. The deepspar is an excellent imager and the new version is worth investing in. The DC is not worth investing in at all and would not consider this one. Yes the best for an all in one tool is still ACE PC3k + DE. Know the pirce is expensive but if you are serious about your work and your clients data then the investment is well spent. But you still have to pay around 900 euro per year for updates and to keep the tool current. So if you do not have a lot of work and use this tool all the time then you might not want to invest in this and are looking for an alternative to cloning. Look at Atola and Deepspar for cloning. They are great tools and you will be happy with your investment.

atola insight good tool to use for any data recovery jobs

the main unit is custom built on Linux has some really nice diagnostics built into it

atola imager is a very good tool to have but does not have the diagnostic side

deepspar 3 is also a very good tool which works in dos but now its a little bit older

deepspar 4 also works in dos but now i see it works in windows based system also supports usb add on for my wd passport drives but cost around $2,000 extra
has problems with amd cpu intel no issues at all.

most data recovery company's want to keep secrets what they really use as they want to keep the competition down
and that is the deepspar system most members use on here

money no problem add the atola insight it is also a very good tool to use

Dolphin's new company set up by x salvation data engineers
can not really read a true review on this item yet
some of the forum is open to paid members only of the item

but heard it does have a lot of bugs in the program and slow

you want the best Atola and Deepspar for cloning that all you need

atola = deepspar :)

have to say where the deepspar failed and locked up total

the other unit atola imager recovery everything from the drive 100%

They have now release the Dr PRO wich works on USB3.
They claim 130Mb imaging speed on a 1TB drive.
