how do you write rom overlays form a seagate laptop to another laptop PCB using UDMA. Also, if a laptop has no PCB chip on the board, does that mean the rom is a parallel type or serial. How do tell what is parallel and what is serial. The drive i am trying to write the rom from is a ST960822A, FW: 3.02, SITE: WU. |

If there is no ROM chip on PCB then you will not be able to write ROM on such PCB To write ROM is easy you just read it from one PCB and write it to another If you have PC3K it should be in manuals |

How to know if its serial or parallel? , easy find the datasheets from ROM bit to bit VS byte of transmission "one packet of byte sendit for each clock signal" thats the theory Regards |

I connected the drive to udma via terminal. Before this was accomplished, I first set the drive into safe mode and sent the safe mode signal as suggested by the manual. By the way, the chapter regarding seagates is very complicated and not well written for easy comprehension. Com read the drive model and the firmware version, but then outputted this message: üInterface task reset 4096k x 16 buffer detected MERCURY - 1_Disk 3.02 08- Buzz - 23-05 15:41 Head Mask FFFF - Switch to full int. Spin Ready 3.02 08-23-05 15:45 (P)PATA Reset Not Interface Age! AutoRd Err 47 at ffffffff.00.0000 AutoRd Err 47 at ffffffff.00.0000 INVALID Cert Disk Code - ROM Resident Revision Required: 3.02 Command Inactive - No VALID Cert Code Detected What does this mean and, what would be the next step to resolve this issue? Does this mean the ROM could be read or is not present? Could you take Rom from another drive with the same Rom version and replace the original? |

skynet, your drive has read errors in adaptives or zone modules, this makes drive to generate Age 60 (most likely) and because zone tables are not in memory drive knows only H0 which makes impossible to load CERT code IMHO |

How do I fix the adaptives or the zone table so they can be read? Can hotswap be performed. Can a head exchange be performed? |
