Hi to all Gurus!

HDD spins up and cmes do DRD DSC. ID is being read, all seems to be fine but drive won't read any LBA.
Checked modules but no corruption there. Looks similar to tranaslator corruption so I cleared G-List and regenerated translator but still the same problem. Ran Head test and all passed.

Has anyone had similar case before? It is first time I got something like this.

HDD details:
Model: WDC WD10EACS-00ZJB0 (Hulk)

Any idea about that?

I have now this one too.
In my case, the recalibration is failed, because one head is KO.

The HDD has at least one defective head. sometimes head test will reveal a damaged head, but in many cases all will appear OK. you need to determine which head is damaged, you can do this by using new HEad Map Edit feature to pair heads individually and sequentially until you can read sector with 'Sector Edit' option.

I have never managed hotswap on Hulk family, but have recovered many with these symptoms via head map changing in RAM.

Head test shows all heads OK. Will try to experiment with head map in RAM.

This is a very common symptom for WD now. You can try imaging in reverse and adjusting the read settings.

This will not work. No single sector is accessible because the translator is not completely loaded.

I had the exact same model with the same issue several months ago. The value of the data was not enough for me to play further. You may want to try a smart hot swap to see if that helps, but I suspect that it is a combination of heads and media. This, by far, is the most annoying symptom of the ROYL series, IMHO.

If anyone has found a work around for this, I'd love to know what it is, before we see another one. The next time we get one, I'll be sure to spend more time trying to figure it out...even if I have to do it for next to nothing. No, this is not an invite for everyone to dump these drives on me...just in case it crossed your mind.

I just noticed the previous comment and agree...it does seem as though the translator just isn't loading all the way, or at all. When looking at the modules, there doesn't seem to be any obvious damage.

The problem is usually with one or more head. the Translator is unable to load completely because it identifies a defective head, or a head that is unable to accurately read. You can access the data via head map editing assuming you are able to identify the damaged head. Alternatively hotswap will work, but as the fault is head related you will still need to know which head is defective in order to exclude it in Head Map creation.

Tried Head Map editing in RAM (available in new UDMA Marvel utility) and it actually gives good result so far. After disabling Head7 and soft-reset it allows sector access in DataExtractor. Created Head Map in DE and unchecked Head7 and image is running well so far..

I agree. Usually one of the final heads. Do not see many with damage to one of the first heads.
