Firmware download from USB drive without removing?

Hi probably a silly question, but you don't know till you ask.

Can I get the whole PC3000 compatible firmware et al from a USB drive and store it in my Database without removing the physical HDD from the USB case (2.5" and 3.5")?

Reason is, I am building my library up and want to get firmwares from all new drives passing through. We sell/return data on external USB drives and it would be good to be able to capture the firmware/modules without having to open the cases and plug in via SATA.

Can this be done? Can it be done directly on PC3000?

BadMac, the USB interfaces usually only support a limited subset of SCSI commands. The device then converts these into ATA commands. I haven't found one that doesn't. If you do find one, please post back here! I am pretty sure I am not the only person who would be interested.

It is possible to write such a program for some USB boxes
PC3000 cannot do that
