Hi,
First make sure the settings in HT are correct (38000,n,8,1). Second make sure "echo" is off in HT so you do not see your own typing unless it is being echoed from the drive. Next jumper the TX and RX lines on the PCB header that plugs into the drive you should see your key strokes echoed. If this works your hardware is good. Then try the drive again again. If it fails after that try a different drive.
Hope this helps

Yes drive power would be good. And who builds (uses) a connector without the polarization tab ???? Come on people don't we care ???

Just use HT if USB serial is a COM and you want to verify hardware.

Yes you need power and connect right way up. Is it a genuine pc3000? because it is explained in your manual.

One more thing if its not one of the newer drives you need to set baud rate 9600.

ACELAB's support fails, when you use email. Ask them via Skype. Acelaboratory.support - Tech support for international customers. aceelena - billing and sales.
There are others, but these are the general ones.
