You manually need to edit the modules (split, joint and other such actions) in raw hex mode, in order to make them cross compatible.

i think the problem is that you can't simply rename:
the loader in maxtor is quite different in pc3k you have a .ldr file and in SD is boot.cod file but loader operation is a little bit different (sd loader involve more modules). NVRAM file of hitachi on the other side is the same and you can use on both (a simple dump  ), in hitachi you have the .res file(for SD) which is not properly a loader but have some informations on SA structure (like module map) ... So may be as someone else suggested use a hex editor to check modules structure.

Just for the reference, here is the the conversion table for Seagate U6:

Salvation Modules Name PC3000 Modules Name
(In STU6_1.mod format) (In .RPM Format)

1 ----- RWF
2 ----- AT_STUFF
3 ----- SMART
4 ----- CSPT
5 ----- OVLY_CCT
6 ----- OVLY_ACT
7 ----- OVLY_CN1
8 ----- UDEFBAK
9 ----- USERDEF
10 ----- RESVDEF
11 ----- OVLY_AN1
12 ----- SYSVAR1
17 ----- OVLYA
22 ----- SECURITY
23 ----- OVLY_AT1
24 ----- VENDORSP

However, it's doesn't mean that won't need my previous advice!
