Hello all the Gurus. Working with a WD-400BD. Drive was clicking. Original drive has 1 head only. Found a donor that had 2 heads. Performed head swap. Patient Drive spins up and ID's itself with correct Model and firmware in PC-3000. I am not sure what to do next. I am not so good with PC-3000 and still learning. Any help would be greatly appreciated . PLease see the SA structure report below. Thanks

If you are finding no other problems in this one you can try to go to the DE and create head map on this. Image with one head only and do not image with the second head on this one. That would be the next step if you can access your data and read your data from this drvie. It has to be imaged to a new drive now in order to continue on with your work.

Thanks for the quick response Poe. Sorry i didnt mention express test shows all errors. I dont have access to data. Module 32 translator, Module 23 Smart and Module 34 G-list shows Error in SA structure report.
I assume I have to fix these modules first?
What are the steps to fix them?
How can i deactivate the 2nd head or it doesn't matter?
Thanks for all your help in advance

Try to clear the Glist and Smart, regen translator and see what you get on this one. If you glist is over flowing you might have to stop all defect to go to the Glist when cloning your drive.

Glist should be rewritten, translator rewritten, then translator regenerated from plist only.

Should be simple case if you have the tools. If you are having trouble with this case then you should seriously consider to have somebody on hand for outsourcing etc. Possibly you can make a good arrangement with someone at this forum, and even learn more about this and similar cases at the same time.

Also, DE will not allow access to this disk with these SA errors.

p.s. Good job on the head change :)

Hdd guy thanks for the compliment on head swap. It was really a tough call. Patient drive only has 1 head on top of the platter. i ordered 2 donor drives very close match and both of them had head underneath the platter instaed of on the top. Finally i found a diffrent Model WD donor drive in stock that had 2 heads and performed a head swap. I'll post both the drive info shortly for any future reference for others. ( So much for close match compatibility for head change).

I really need help on fixing this SMART Module. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Im not so sure that the SMART is a problem. Did you try data access without it?

If you have a second donor a hotswap is a good option for you in these circunstances
