I'm about to fork out my hard earned cash for PC-3000 UDMA. The quote from ACE lists Data Extractor as a 1680 euro option. I've read what information I can find about DE and from what I can see it seems sensible to purchase it along with PC-3000.

Do all of you who already own and use PC-3000 also have DE, and find it worth while?

After years in IT support and repair I've decided that DR seems challenging and something I'd like to explore further. I've repaired numerous drives with the usual PCB swap outs/ROM swaps and logical repairs, but I'm going to need PC-3000 if I want to take this seriously.

I'm aware that there's a steep and long learning curve and that tools are nothing without knowledge, but one has to start somewhere.

Your opinions would be appreaciated.

DE definitely recommended.

Use it every day (on several PC3k's)

My vote is for the DE add-on...increases the power of PC3000 one thousand fold. In my humble opinion, of course.

Thanks guys for all your input. I'm in discussion with ACE now finalising the whole thing. These Russians are quite controlling - I wanted to arrange DHL to collect it from them and ship it to me as I would save a few hundred euros based on the quote ACE gave me. However they say their goverment "won't allow such a thing" and that they have to arrange everything on their side.

Either way I'm doing with UDMA and DE based on your recommendations, now time for the learning curve to begin!

Yes that is what it is an imager and a lot more. It is a program or part of the UDMA that after repair of the HDD you use this to image, data copy, head map building, imaging by heads and a lot of other options that come with this tool. You have different data search options on this and can add files by type and view and read data. This makes a complete tool or should I say it completes the UDMA to make two tool of SD in one tool from ACE. This in your case would be the same as having the HD Doctor suite and the Data Compass. Or if you have the HD Doctors and the DDI. That is what it is and what it does. ACE on their web site has explained this tool and you can go there and read up on it.

Hum.. Thanks Phoere. I'm waiting for my DDI. Do you consider DDI better than DE?

Everybody says DDI is the top imager there is....
