Hi all,

I've got my PC3K installed in an old PC, Pentium 4 on an old Intel 945 motherboard. I'm thinking of buying a new PC to install it in, but I'm wondering if this will speed up Data Extractor?

For example, doing an NTFS structure scan can take a long time on a big drive. Will getting a machine with an i5 and lots of RAM speed these operations up?

Just an update here. On my current PC3K machine (P4) I was imaging a drive to another with PC3K, and copying from an onboard HDD to a USB HDD at the same time, and it all came to a crawl, everything was going so slowly. So I've decided to upgrade that machine. I'm getting a i5 2500K Sandy Bridge with 8GB of RAM. Once it's setup I'll see how much faster everything runs.

Most operations are limited by the HDD's speed. Unless like your last post, you were probably being bottlenecked by USB speeds, which transfer slower than other connections with normal operating hard drives. If you are using the PC3k card and both ATA0 and ATA1 on the card, I think PC3K handles most of the workload.

Operations that are not HD speed dependent should be sped up.

You could use solid state disk to store the operating system and the executable files

I got my new i5 machine and PC3K starts up much faster and all PC3K operations run at a much better speed, great improvement. And now I can play some games whilst imaging a drive
