Why do you guess that a change of f/w version, will help with your problem? A change of f/w is very unlikely to help with that type of problem.

If you want any help with investigating your problem, I suggest that you post a better problem description ("hdd working slowly" is quite vague) into a new thread in the Hard Disk Drives: data recovery and repair forum, and perhaps you might get some suggestions. You must be prepared to perform tests & supply data, if requested by other members; do not expect help from just that problem description.

As an example of the minimum information that you should give, if you decide to request further help via the forum linked above, please include the history of this situation (e.g. has the drive always been "slow" or not?); what changed shortly before the problem started (e.g. was the drive dropped or any other changes?); how are you deciding that the drive is slow? (provide screenshots of your test results) etc. etc. Do NOT request that help in this thread, since this forum is only for users of the PC-3000 product.

Sometimes, a "slow" disk can be caused by internal disk failure. Therefore if the data from your disk is still readable, then make sure you have a backup copy of it NOW, in case the disk deteriorates. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Thank you for your answers, I would like the original CR100-10 CR100-because before I put the 13 at the HDD went normally. But I can not find anywhere else in the firmware CR100-10. Can you help that I can put back the firmware CR100-10? I hope you understand the question. Thanks

I'm sorry but I screwed up the previous post.
The correct:

As Vulcan says, your question is inappropriate for this forum. That said, I don't believe I could help you in the repair forum, either. :-(

Anyway, here is Dell's T166 firmware update:
http://ftp.dell.com/sata/BR180581.exe
http://ftp.dell.com/sata/Samsung_multi- ... 180581.exe

FYI, here are the two firmware images and EST script file that I extracted from the above executables:
http://www.users.on.net/~fzabkar/HDD/De ... sung_T166/

I can't see any similarity between Samsung's .DN4 firmware images and the PC-3000_UDMA .pcr firmware file.

BTW, the DN4 images are byte-swapped.

fzabkar,

I have an Model=SAMSUNG HD501LJ, FwRev=CR100-10, SerialNo=S0MUJ1CP205465 .
I had no success to flash the latest firmware with Dell Update File

and now my other problem ist that the drive is far away from me and allready build into a Linux-System, wich i can access with ssh, so i need to find a way to flash the Firmware file under Linux!

But now my biggest question is now:
the file: "CR13B12M.DN4" is all i need ?? to put this with like hdparm on to the Harddrive or will i do a big mistake and the Drive would be after putting the "CR13B12M.DN4" File on a bricked device ?

I can't see any similarity between Samsung's .DN4 firmware images and the PC-3000_UDMA .pcr firmware file.

What does this mean... the file(s) CR13B12M.DN4 and CP13B14M.DN4 are not correct?
BTW, the DN4 images are byte-swapped.

and also what do you exactly mean with this comment, sorry i dont understand.

Cause you also said its byte swapped ...

Thank you so much for your time and i hope, fzabkar can give me Answer to my Question(s).

@mosquitos, you have come to a forum where almost everything is treated as a big secret. The PCR format is an Ace Laboratory proprietary compressed compilation of firmware modules extracted from the PCB "ROM" and the Maintenance Cylinders (a hidden, reserved area on the platters).

Applying a Dell firmware update to a retail drive is a potentially destructive thing to do, as the two sets of firmware will most probably be incompatible. Tom's Hardware has several such disasters.
