Hi all,

I have a Hitachi HDT722525DLAT80 (MLC: BA1466, P/N: 0A31611) which has a dead PCB. I also have a donor drive which works perfectly.

Obviously as the PCB is dead (even when its off the drive I get no response from it at all), I can't read the NV-RAM from the chip. I've replaced the donor PCB on to the patient drive and checked the modules - all came back with errors. I then ran the NV-RAM adjustment tool to search for the SA. This found the service area and generated a new NV-RAM image, which I wrote to the drive.

After writing it to the drive and doing a module check, I get OKs on all Copy 0 modules, but all Copy 1 modules and some factory copy modules are still erroring. Also the HDD ID is not being read, and I get an error reading the "open" modules on start up.

Looking through the module check log, I can see messages such as 'Incompatible with NV-RAM' under the USAG heading.

Any ideas? Is there a way of achieving this without de-soldering the NV-RAM from the patient board and re-soldering it on to the donor, or is that the only way this can be achieved?

Why aren't you prepared to move the NVRAM? It's by far the easiest way.

I agree, moving the NVRAM chip to the compatible board is the quickest and easiest.

Otherwise, if you are prepared to measure some voltages, we could at least find out what is wrong with the original board.
