WD20EARS GREEN 2TB firmware question--help please

We have a WD 2.0 TB Green HDD: WD20EARS-00MVWB0 -- Tornado 2D/ Sadle G6

The original PCB appears to have suffered heat damage and does not conduct current. We replaced the PCB with a matching PCB. Now the HDD spins up and the PC3000 UDMA says it is a Sadle G6. The utility starts, but the screen says "Active Module Not found". We are also seeing "The drive does not support LBA mode or the ID Drive was not ready". When we try to view the the ROM we get a complaint about module ID47.

According the PC3000 UDMA manual, we appear to have the "empty HDD ID" variant (see screenshot attached). The motor kept spinning and we were able to start the utility. The manuals says we can proceed to Step 2 in that case.

However, we are unsure if we are interpreting this correctly and are hesitant to proceed, since we don't want to damage the ROM on the new PCB.

Would it be better to swap the U12 chip, rather than do the procedure in the manual?

Can you provide some guidance on how to proceed with this drive?

I have attached two jpg screenshots.

Thanks

Why not just move ROM IC @ U12 from patient PCB to donor PCB?

We actually found that the original circuit board was OK-- some of the contacts just needed cleaning with a pencil eraser-- thanks though--
