Hello,

I can't afford to buy both the card and DE at the same time and have to get them one at a time.
My plan is to get the card first. Would you recommend the pcie version vs udma, and why?

What type of repairs can i do just with the card? Can i use another tool to extract data while I am saving up for DE?

Thank you.

Do NOT buy it without DE - it's like a car without an engine.

Wait until you can afford both.

What do you want to do? Recovery or Drive Repair? If so, at what level?

Totally agree with "C" :-)

DE is perfectly integrated with pc3k and some jobs would be a lot harder or impossible without both products.

I know a guy who bought UDMA on its own - it was a total waste of money - unless you're doing just drive refurb maybe.

I am interested in data recovery, not drive refurb.

Been repairing electronics, inc. laptops, ever since the word 'laptop' became a word. I am talking about actual electronics repairs, not just part-swapping, obviously. I have also coded for some years, mainly in C.

Data recovery is a relatively new area for me. However, I'd like to avoid dealing with Ace if at all possible.
Having read around, Atola Insight is the most self-contained product I could find so far.

I'd be grateful for your comments and opinions. These are really useful.

CK, could you please tell more about the various levels of data recovery?

The learning curve may be kinda long if you just join this field with no data recovery background, electronics repair is kinda useless. Normally I don't waste a time on PCB repairing, its a question of ~20-30 dollars and layouts are not easy to find. Your coding backgroud can help here more. If you choose ACE keep in mind you must subscribe on their support service to receive software updates. I'd consider purchasing of Deepspar I've heard they merged hardware with R-studio software which is quiet good. Dunno their price tho'.

Good luck

Levels here are:

1 lite damages of file system
2 hdd FW repair
3 work with HDA (heads, media, etc)
4 complex cases with multiple damages

With respect to Col, electronics fault-finding skills are not useless, as I have already verified firsthand.
I will not buy anything from Ace, but am in the process of buying Atola Insight.

Sorry, I just meant that from data recovery point of you it's not must have skill, there are other skills that more important.
Though the most important is ability and desire to learn. Good luck!
