Dear Gurus

I have a SCSI HP drive (from a HP Propliant Server), which is not accessible.

Search on the internet on the model BD03695CC8 is referring to FUjitsu drives (HP OEMing those?).
I run PC-3000 for SCSI / Fujitsu utility (supports the MAP family)

When the utility starts the Drive responds normally:

Selected family......................... : MAP

Set techno mode......................... : Ok
Directory table loading................. : Ok
Heads map............................... : 00 01
Zone table loading...................... : OK

The HDD-ID returns the following data:

HDD-ID
Peripheral dev type......................................... HDD
ANSI version................................................ SCSI-3
Addr16...................................................... [X]
Wbus16...................................................... [X]
Sync Data Transmission Support.............................. [X]
Linked Command Support...................................... [X]
Continue Task or Target Transfer Support.................... [ ]
Tagged Tasks Support........................................ [X]
Vendor Identification....................................... COMPAQ
Product Identification...................................... BD03695CC8
Product Revision Level...................................... HPB6
Unit serial number.......................................... ... (the serial returned is wrong according to drive sticker)
Max LBA..................................................... 100000
Device capacity............................................. 48 MB

The capacity is wrong:

Readiness Check gives the following:

HDD readiness checking
SCSI CDB Sent........................... : 00 00 00 00 00 00
SRB Status.............................. : 04 [SRB completed with error]
Host Adapter Status..................... : 00 [Host adapter did not detect error]
Target Status........................... : 02 [Check Condition]
Sense Key............................... : 02 [Not Ready]
Additional Sense Code................... : 04
+Sense Code Qualifier................... : 01 [Logical Unit Is in Process of Becoming Ready]

The SCSI codes indicate (readiness errors). I performed a Start/Stop Operation. The results continue to be readiness errors with different codes.

Start/Stop
Start/Stop
SCSI CDB Sent........................... : 1B 00 00 00 01 00
SRB Status.............................. : 04 [SRB completed with error]
Host Adapter Status..................... : 00 [Host adapter did not detect error]
Target Status........................... : 02 [Check Condition]
Sense Key............................... : 04 [Hardware Error]
Additional Sense Code................... : 4C
+Sense Code Qualifier................... : A3 []
Fujitsu Vendor Specific (UEC)........... : Logical unit failed selfconfiguration. The IDD's initial setup failed. SA Read error (any 3/13/** error during SA read).

Ok

Which indicates an error reading the SA area.

ROM reading works OK:

Reading ROM
Into folder............................. : <HDD Profile>\Data\ROM
Duration................................ : 12:00:00 ðì

Head tests, SA-tests and SA-reading fail with the same reason on all modules/sectors etc.:

Sense Key............................... : 02 [Not Ready]
Additional Sense Code................... : 04
+Sense Code Qualifier................... : 01 [Logical Unit Is in Process of Becoming Ready]

I guess this is head-assembly error? or am I looking at a PCB error?

What would be your guru suggestion for next steps?

Thanks in advance for your time.

KC

Unfortunately no. Need to find one? It's head-assembly issue?

I believe it is heads issue or platter damage. Likely platter damage.

Np. You are welcome. Hope I am wrong and there is still hope depending on amount of damage. SCSI drives' design is more favorable compared to ATA and data can be often recovered even with larger damage extent. However, the heads work technique is more complex. A top experienced pro should be able to handle it.

Despite all of that, in my experience, there is a drawback in getting these model drives to register in the system. Sometimes they can be a pain requiring a lot of fiddling and nerves of steel.

But first step is for pro to examine damage in a cleanroom.

Best wishes.

Unit serial number.......................................... ... (the serial returned is wrong according to drive sticker)

If pcb is not original it will be very difficult to do correct diagnosis and repair.
