I have a Maxtor Calypso 60G that has a trashed platter at the inside track, where the heads park.

The drive will not initialize, but I can get it to spin in safe mode and loading the LDR from the PC-3000 database.

The drive keeps returning "Drive is not ready"

What steps would you use to read this disk ?
Can I force the drive to a ready state ?

I repair almost thousand of Maxtor hard drives if you need data we can work together to recover it I have HD Doctor for Maxtor. To loading a LDR file their is very unique method.

LDR loading procedure:

Set jumper to safe mode
Then start the PC3000 Utility with LDR file "LDR file must be from same family Calypso"
If it show the capacity no matter whatever its mean LDR file loaded successfully.
Then perform SA structure test.
Must be some Modules are corrupted re-write from same family.
Clear Smart
Clear G and P list
Restart the drive

If drive get detected you can see the data.
