Hello,

Today I've encountered following problem with Seagate Momentus 5400.6, after powering on it was recognized and DRD, DSC leds appeared.
After opening utility, the capacity was ( )MB, so I tried to use the solution, but without good result, You can see the attachment.
Tried also to read response from terminal, it showed only:

Rst 0x08M

After trying to regenerate translator, it failed, but terminal showed a few responses:
LED:000000CC FAddr:00237EC5

Would You please provide advices, how to solve this problem and what do You think the problem is related to?
Swapping the heads could solve the problem ?

By the way, I have successfully done HDD resources backup.

if your Heads also Bad it shows same error.....

this is a 0 LBA & might be also 000000CC as well

no heads issue related to it.

Ace provided a ready to use solution with instructions which might fix the problem.
I used the solution (You can see it on 2nd picture above) but it was terminated by an error.

In the past, I've successfully repaired a few 7200.11 where it was similar problem, but according to Momentus 5400.6 it's my first case with this family and want to be sure, what next steps shall I perform to repair the drive.

Thanks in advance for advices and hints.

It is not heads then
Probably some read errors in SA
Read all SA tracks in check what's bad

After performing steps in terminal described above, what I did next is reading CP's and SA modules (all of them were read without errors) then I performed translator regeneration and it solved the problem.

The weird thing is that during first attempt of regenerating translator it finished with an error.
Whatever, the disk works fine and the case is closed.

I am having a similar issue with momentus 5400 drive - 500GB

It was about one year ago that hdd died. Its operating space was a laptop that didn't get moved around much, mostly sitting on the desk the whole time. The laptop's carton box with which it came had some crash/compression damage, but internals were all ok and laptop worked for about 2 months just fine.

A day before HDD died I ran a surface check on it and it showed 0 damaged sectors and 0 replaced sectors, so I proceeded with copying everything I had to it and nuked original HDD's (BIIIG Mistake) - that was about 300GB of data. Perhaps it got overheated from writing so much? I was just planning to order external backup HDD's in the end of the week and just wanted to make everything ready so I can back it up nicely.
I went to the shop to buy some food and by the time I came back - laptop - blue-screened. ~0.5h
No clicks, HDD was still spinning.
I rebooted laptop and bios said HDD has 0 MB capacity (0 LBA also?)
In other PC's it did the same thing.

I ordered a new drive of similar caracteristics, just a newer version of firmware - swapped the boards - no effect, the broken drive just 'clicked' like crazy with a new board (baad idea, but I didn't expect that), the new one with the old board sat around doing nothing, spun up fine, but that was it. When swapping the boards back, it was same as before, new drive worked (still works), old one doesn't.
Tried cleaning the contact, different PC's - nothing

Does anyone have any idea what to do next ?
VoodooPL - you had a similar issue ? Could you fix the drive if I mail it to you ?

TLDR;
Hdd spins, but cannot access
Bios reports 0MB / 0LBA
SMART and Surface checks previous day were flawless

For bad heads the hard drive must be clicking right?

I'm saying because i have same problem but hard drive it's clicking and don't let me enter Diag mode.

Then either heads are gone or the ROM on the PCB is damaged or not native.

on F3 arch if you loose ROM or if you use a ROM that it's not of the own drive you will get just clicking as well.



When i do Ctrl + Z i can get Diag Mode for a second and then the error continue like
