I see in the manual that ROM writing is not supported by the F3 utility, but there is a drop down menu for it. Anyone know if it supports it now? I get an error message about Boot Code, but not sure if its because my ROM is damaged (as the board was damaged) or if its still not supported.

i am not sure about if is poible to write Rom on F3 drives.but you can use extrernal programer for SOIC

Is there an external programmer at a reasonable price you would recommend?

I would recommend a programmer that can handle the latest 1.8V devices, especially when doing in-circuit programming. Even if the flash memory can handle higher voltages, other devices on the same rail, such as the SDRAM and MCU, may not.

IIRC it costs around US$130.

As for a software tool, I wonder if it would be possible to use SeaFlash to update the ROM. I realise that the F3 ROM contains modular code, in which case a regular firmware update would only target the code sections, but I wonder if it would be possible to modify a regular update to include the adaptive sections as well. I've analysed a few LOD firmware images and ISTM that it might be possible for DIY-ers to achieve this end.

is very usefull and works fine, they have checksun for testing your reads and writes.

I would respectfully suggest that replacing the "malthus.zapto.org" domain name with "www.alexsoft.org" would go some way to "future proofing" the URLs in case the site is taken down again.
