LDR is Loader. Overlay and important modules.

Loader: you may call it the 1st. BRIDGE to access the Service Area and then the Data

To add to what's already been said, it includes the ATA command set which the drive uses to communicate with the computer (or PC-3000 in this case). If the LDR doesn't load, then there's very little communication that can even happen between the PC-3000 and the drive. So it's common especially with WD drives that have SA damage that you might need to upload the LDR (module 11) so you can attempt to access and repair the service area.
