Post subject:  Seagate 8TB ABR-error
Ok, i have this disk, its a seagate Barracuda ST8000DM004 8tb DISK. Client says it has been dropped to floor.
When i start it in PC3k, it spins up, give 1-2 beebs and spins down. PC3k recognises the disk with correct size, serial etc, but thats it. I managed to do backup of all ID-files

Here is what the log says after it starts.

HDD family detecting...

Tech Key...
Error executing command "En Tech" (ABR)
Family ID: 00
Software can`t control COM port signal level for this USB/COM adapter

Model by ID............................. : ST8000DM004

Is there a possibility that heads are gone?

Heads are definitely gone, and most likely media damage too.

The ID is stored on the PCB on these, so that’s why you can see it.

Heads must be checked prior powering it up if you have info about it being dropped to prevent further damage. Furthermore it is almost surely locked.
I have a feeling that you have very limited experience with hdds, i recommend practicing on spare hdds, not client's disks.
8TB drives are not the best to start with, i suggest outsourcing it.

Thanks. I have basically quit this business, and about to sell my pc3000. But this was a friend asking me to check. I suspected heads to be gone :-)
