I usually clear it manually or patch the fw so that it does not set it. There is some way in pc3k to do it automatically, but i never used it and don't know how it works or if it works at all.

Of course, if one can put his hands on source code, it can be very useful, provided he has comprehension about what he is looking at. I have source code for 1-2 pre-F3 families, ...

If we all had the source code, maybe we could be gods, too.

My knowledge is not from source files. As i said all i have is for PRE-F3 drives, which are largely different from these. And i also said source codes are very hard to read and interpret on their own... So i don't think it made me somebody.

@pepe, you shouldn't use your yourself as the yardstick by which to judge others. The source code may not be helpful to you, but others might think differently.

I can think of one job I did where the source code was indispensable. The task involved hacking the microcode in a proprietary bit slice CPU. Even with the source code, the job was not straightforward (the code was annotated, but the algorithms were not documented). Without the source, and without annotations, the job would have been impossible, at least for me.

BTW, in those days I was able to obtain the source code as a purchasable technical document via the manufacturer's official channels. I didn't need to obtain it from dubious "friends", as seems to be the norm in this business.

I think i did not judge anybody, this is BS. Just read my post pls.
It's not our decision to make such documentation inaccessible, however, i do think it is pretty rational to hide such details from users, etc. You can't buy docs of car engines from manufacturers either. Same applies to phones and an 'infinite' number of devices i'm pretty sure.
We need to invest time to gain knowledge just as anybody. No joker cards here.

These days there are no other ways to obtain it, so it is reverse engineering usually. If source ever comes up, it is very, very rarely useful as it is very specific, or old, or not for anything you are currently working on.
Micron and Spectek will not even give DR people an account to get datasheets anymore, so official channels, at least for DR, is a dead end.

peace out friends.
All that I love about you all guys is, you guys push me harder to understand the lower level stuff.

I mean no one taught me here by spoon feeding...but definitely gave me good pointers and what ever I could pickup from forums to build up a skill set has definitely paid off well.

Reverse Engineering is a thorny path....one has to be horny enough to pursue it :D

Happy New Year folks
