What should I do with them , earlier I use to erase alt list and then recover translator which use to worsen the problem. disk is not giving LED error now , but detection has become slower and it tends to become busy.

just erase altlist in ram and clone the disk. No need to regen tr. pepe |

I have cleared Alt list now there are no defects anymore. But still I am experiencing bad sectors. I have erased actual alt list instead of erasing in ram. |

What read settings have you tried. Is this pattern only repeated in one zone. Is this what you mean by large surface defects or was there an area with continuous read errors. |

Hi Lardman Unfortunately now disk has sopped detection itself and disk is staying in busy state. Bad sectors are randomly distributed and not restricted in particular pattern only. I think deleted Alt list has created big issue and all sectors were showing bad in earlier scanning. I am trying to restore firmware /system files so as to take system to previous state ,but its nt getting restored. Though system files /firmware modules are backed up they dont appear when I select backup folder. What could be reason for the same ? |

erasing the altlist won't save you from bad sectors of course, it was only to avoid the LED. and it did not cause your current problem, most probably some head is failing. Can you post log of powerup? pepe |

When backing up the rom initially did you remember to untick skip modules? |

Hi pepe & Lardman Thanks for your help. Yes I have selected all modules and system files ,infact in drives profile these files and rom are present but when trying to restore ,they do not appear . Now symptoms of disk have changed altogether. Here is screenshot.

Not one I've come across yet I'm afraid but there's plenty of search results for it. John's info at the bottom looks relevant and ACE suggest disabling background processes. https://www.cheadledatarecovery.co.uk/2019/02/head-assembly-swap-seagate-st31000528as/ |

try to identify what's wrong with the SA, and concentrate on that, a guesswork won't help a lot here. I mean i can only guess from here, but you can identify the problem having the disk with you. i think 3_28 was not written correctly, (that's why i suggested clearing altlist it only in ram). pepe |

You have great expertise on seagate. I will focus on SA.Thanks a lot. |
