Hello, I need to make a short in this PCB to access the terminal, but iam not sure the correct pin to do this. I marked the possible pins (A or B) on the PCB and I would appreciate it if anyone can help me. HDD Model: ST6000DM003 PCB: 100815597 Attachment: Attachment: Thank you! |

I suspect that this drive uses Two-dimensional Magnetic Recording (TDMR), but the product manual makes no mention of it: https://www.seagate.com/www-content/product-content/barracuda-fam/barracuda-new/en-us/docs/100805918n.pdf Therefore I expect that there would be two read channels and one write channel. ISTM that shorting either A or B should be enough. I would measure the voltages with respect to ground at each of the read and write channel test points, with the PCB both on and off the HDA. BTW, isn't the terminal locked in this model? |

Terminal response below: FAIL Servo Op=02A5 Resp=0003 02A5 B318 0003 7FFF 7FFF 7FFF 001C 1A59 373B 0000 42BC 3B00 FFFF 0020 0000 0000 0000 004D 0000 0000 0000 F590 419A 0037 0000 7000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 ResponseFrame 0000 0001 FFFF 76AB E0D4 0000 0000 0000 0CA6 0011 CE00 0000 3A00 001A 1130 0225 41EE 0E65 0018 41EE FFFF 1000 E0D4 0002 0003 B318 0000 8001 0001 1000 0019 0000 FFFF Loop=1000 RECOV Servo Op=02A5 Resp=0005 UnRecoveredSeekErrorHandling And I cant access the terminal directly with CTRL + z, so i think in try make the short to access the terminal. This drive seems to be quite difficult to change the head. And I would like to make a few attempts to acccess through the terminal before trying this. |

Out of curiosity, are you even able to unlock the ROM of this model? Shorting the read channel won't do much good if it's locked down anyway. I'm not even sure if PC-3000 supports unlocking this model yet. |

I'm not even sure if PC-3000 supports unlocking this model yet. yes, i can unlock normally. When the drive is turned on after unlocking, it is asked for the handshake. but I can't apply the handshake because the heads don't leave the terminal free. |

this thing can be unlocked over terminal. not a trivial task though. |
