Hello,

I have encountered a problem which I haven't been able to solve so far and I'm running out of ideas what to do, so...

I have the case where Seagate ST31000524AS had bad heads and I replaced them with fully functional identical donor drive heads, but after the swap, the drive started clicking and couldn't read SA. With original heads and donor heads I tested to read-only Head 0, but it just kept clicking I reinstalled the donor heads back to donor HDD and it was working 100%, so no problems with the donor parts. Original drive's serial numbers 4 first digits are matching, the preamp has been checked, they are the same with both drives. Both drives are using the same firmware JC48 and the date code is very close.

ROM serial is checked and it matches with the original PCB, so it's native.

Is there some kind of native connection between PCB/ROM and heads? After I swap fully working heads, it just keeps clicking.

No visible damage on SA.

I would appreciate it if someone could help me out with this or lead me the way giving clues, etc.

Try another donor or start looking at the adaptives.

Thank you for you answer! Could you please explain why you suggest to try a find another donor drive, when original donor is completely fine, even after re-installation?
I'm missing something here?

Everything match with donor HDD and original HDD, including the preamp version.

Hi,
Read Patient ROM And DONOR ROM , Transfer Adaptive Modules From DONOR To Patient Then Try the same ,you might get lucky ,These are drives in which head swap is not easy
