Is it safe to generate the translator for this drive? Model : WDC WD10SDZW-11UMGS0 Firmware : 01.01A01 Capacity : 1 000 GB (1 953 459 632) Some of the data is readable but some other is not. It doesn't seems like scratches or bad sectors but like translator problem. Thank you ahead |

It's a SMR drive so no, it is a really bad idea. Did you save and checked modules? |

So i guess your problem is not related to the translator. If you can read random LBA it's something else like bad sectors. But i didn't see the case so it's hard to guess based on "some data is readable but some other is not". |

There are very large areas (large LAB range) which head 1 read very stable and very fast (the same areas on different new tasks) but some other large areas which it can't read any single sectors. It feels like translator issue but as it seems even if it is translator issue I can't regenerate it so is there any other solution? |

Did you analyze T2? |

If it's original T2 you can compare it with rebuilded one. SMR are strange. I've seen a case where rebuilded T2 didn't read sector 0 and some other too. When rebuilded again, everything was fine. Data was ok too. I even showed it to ACE. But i doubt that this is your case. If it's original T2, i would say bad sectors, or as Pepe wrote, maybe weak head. |

or defrag running in the bg, which can screw things up if writing is not disabled... Melvin's problem with lba0 was probably caused by T2 being altered. It would be interesting to see where the unreadable areas are located, i can check that if you can send me 183 and 190. pepe |

65,245,380 - 65,364,368 length: 118,989 H1 Zone 20 65,364,720 - 65,483,357 length: 118,638 H1 Zone 20 65,483,709 - 66,489,440 length: 1,005,732 H1 Zone 20 66,668,589 - 67,970,447 length: 1,301,859 H1 Zone 20 70,585,728 - 73,459,511 length: 2,873,784 H1 Zone 21 79,233,052 - 85,691,857 length: 6,458,806 H1 Zone 22-23 92,121,821 - 95,135,867 length: 3,014,047 H1 Zone 24 104,628,702 - 114,188,076 length: 9,559,375 H1 Zone 25-27 121,014,108 - 124,660,451 length: 3,646,344 H1 Zone 28 the above ranges pretty much cover zones 20-28 on H1, but there are some holes, which also belong to H1 but not listed: 65,483,358-65,483,708 H1 Zone 20 66,489,441-66,668,588 H1 Zone 20, small chunks are these readable? also, is the drive still able to read lower lbas from H1? 272,088-337,622 (H1 Zone 04) for example If head was weak i would expect outer zones to be less readable... but the above is showing the opposite... :s pepe |
