Zed, Sometime it helps to generate a soft reset when the utility takes too long to finish. Dobre |

Thanks, basically the problem i am having is that no matter what i try - i cannot get the utility to start. Usually this means the loader did not work or the correct loader was not used but i know the correct loader is being used. Any suggestions on what to try next to get the utility to open so i can examine the firmware modules? |

Yes, it clicks a few times then stops when loading the loader form an identical drive. What would this problem suggest? it seems serious badsectors in SA thats why drive click and after few sec or mins drive stop click spin properly.... well some time if u load unmatched loader also got problem from that also... if checksum is same but still drive clicks after load loader then it will be head error then u can change head to recover data |

yes it could be a head problem if your loader is same as ROM SA . |

It's definitely a head issue. Your best bet is to keep this drive powered off as you may cause platter damage. Head issues can at times result from bad firmware which needs to be remedied. However you will need to actually have the heads re-aligned in addition to repairing the firmware in order to retrieve the data. |

It will not work this way Loader loading procedure has been changed in new Maxtor drives (like Grizzly, Sabre2 and Shasta) and this PC3000 utility cannot load loader for these models at all There is no free software to solve this issue I think in new PC3000 UDMA this problem has been fixed (but I'm not sure) |
