Use a hammer.

Or try to simple overwrite the sectors if you want to destroy the data.

Hi,

I am afraid there's something wrong with writing to the media. Either PCB, preamp or head...

and now, for the actual correct answer.... doing a low level format, or clearing the smart, has absolutely nothing to do with the partitioning of the drive, if you boot your pc with the western digital data lifeguard tools, go to the "setup HardDrive" option, select the OS from the list that you intend to install, it will then give you an option for an easy installation, or advanced, choose advanced, click on the clear button option, then the add button option, use full drive capacity for a primary partition, check the box to allow deletion and formatting and click format, when completed goahead restart put os cd in drive and enjoy yuor freshly partitioned HDD.

your welcome in advance

... and the answer is wrong. :D

Low lever format SHOULD clear the partition table as well.
This drive is failing, and nobody can use any of sw installers to handle it.

Maybe heads have become read only , it happens it reads fine but doesn't write anything .

This is highly possible. I have seen it in WD400BB HD's in the past.

Strange. try to do a write test to like the first sectors of the ddrive - power reset and verify if it wrote it.
