Hi,

You should post on another area.
What happened after you format? What have you done? Installed anything?

You say you formatted the C: & upgraded to win7 64 - I guess you mean you did a clean install. When you did the format was it quick or did it take ages? If it was quick then data recovery software should be able to recover some or most of your photos but the folder structure & names will be lost as the MFT has been over written. Do not write, install programs or save to the drive as you could ruin any chances of getting your data back by over writing the sectors. Also when did this happen? If it happend a while back & you have kept using win7 time is not your friend as I think win7 moves files to different sectors to optimize the os. Can anyone confirm this?

If it took ages to format then you will have lost your data as a win7 normal format writes zeros to the sectors over writing all data.

Scan it with DMDE (NTFS search). It should find old system parameters.

How can you get back those formatted files? Formatting hard disc means you lost everything. Recovery is not possible. Some software’s are available in market, but I don’t know how worthy it is. Don’t you have a back up of those files? Hope it happened by mistake. Can you tell me what exactly happened here and what kind of files are you looking for? May be someone from the forum itself will be able to help you after reading the whole story.

if it the format is high leve, you can recover the data.
However you said that moved from XP to win7, you should have done a upgrade of the OS.
