If you had to build Raid 5 storage servers, with HW controller such as 3Ware, what large SATA drive would you use?:
Hitachi ULTRASTAR
WD Raid Edition (RE2 or RE3)
Samsung Spin Point F1

for density sake > 500Gb would be needed.
This has been covered, and Samsung seem a popular vote BUT i need Enterprise or Raid class disks.

they seem a realy good prices and the user comments (not DR recovery, but end user) seem good.
How are these drives to repair? Do they have the servo tracks written after the "wobbly" headstack is fastened like the WD AAKS's? Do they have parking ramps or do they use a landing zone?

This model doesn't have parking ramp
All Seagate drives have servo written on platters before drive's assembly
Only WDs have "wobbly" HSAs

In addition
Hitachies are ok but they slow
Samsungs F1 are very fast but they not really stable for RAID
Seagate are good but they could have firmware glitches
WDs are just pieces of crap in all parameters (IMHO)

Doomer .. Above is an interesting comment .. So. if the servo is written to platters before assembly, then there would be no need for platter realignment as there is with STW. Would I be correct ? Or is there some other post assembly process that requires the platter alignment.

That's why Seagates are easier to platters transplant
