best hard drive

Hi Guys ,, i want to buy an external hard drive (1 terabyte) ,,, and iam searching for the best model which has no power supply ,, becaue the ac power adapter bothers me alot !!!

any advices !!!

I don't think you're gonna get a USB powered 1Tb anywhere.

Yes, currently 1TB drives are exists in 3.5" size, wich requires much more power than the USB can give....
Wait more, or forget it!

My honest opinion is that all retail external HDD are Terrible.


By an aftermarket enclosure from a reputable company (With active cooling prefferably)

then pick a 3.5inch 1TB drive with a good track record so far (Cough hitachi)


even better would be to get a enclosure that supports RAID 1, and throw two 1TB drive in there and get some redundancy

It amazes me how much these fanless Mac ext hard drives cost. Someone is making a killing...

The only good ext hd is a raid mirror....All others WILL fail and cost you $$$

i have onetouch 1 TB ( 2 X 500 GB ). used as Mirror. at least safe for me when there is a hardware problem. I plan to change it to 2 X 1 TB of course will be used as Mirror..
and NEVER use RAIDD 0...
