Does anyone have any documentation around compatibility of SATA 1 and SATA 2 drives?
For example I believe SATA 2 switched to an AC Coupled method, but SATA 1 is DC Coupled. This seems to cause compatibility issues with certain controller chipsets out there.
So I am just curious if anyone has any more information.

There are a few electrical specs for this... SATA interface defined as Gen1i may be AC or DC coupled .The SATA interfaces defined as Gen1x, Gen2i, Gen2x shall be AC-coupled.
I think this is decided at the connector.. Let you do some digging. Try SATA org and this link is quite good
