yes They are Expensive .
actually I was researching for something like CD ROM Which in theory CAN read platters independent
of drive model ( the model specific data should be known thu). if you consider such an achievement the
for $100,000 many DR companies might find it reasonable .
however calibration to be able to pickup signal is just first step there are
several Decoding step before you get the actual data but its not hard specially if zones data
were available maybe also possible without it decoding of
RLL and CRC ,...seems not hard too they are very simple algorithms and there are pre known bits
to bruteforce and find the correct decoder
but seems like that the technology is considered as trade secrets
any one knows that there such device commercially available?
something base on signal trace technology or anything similar ?
