Where can i find firmware CC37 to St3500418AS Seagate?

August 10th, 2011, 5:04

Hi, its my first visit here so please be patience with my low knowlege about diks etc.

I wonder if downloading CC 37 firmware to a ST3500418AS disk with CC38 firmware and then taking the board to my not working other disk that have CC37 firmware.

My other disk sound like its starting an few seconds and starts klicking some times and then stop.
No message coming up, nothing, i'm not finding my disk!

Can it be firmware or is it a instant crasch? I can not afford to pay 1500-2000US in Sweden, that is like rape.
All data in the disk is genealogy stuff and for community center org that have no money (pro bono association)

Can it be firmware

Clicking symptoms will not be solved by trying to update the firmware on the PCB, as you suggested. :( Also, most of the f/w is not on the PCB - it's on the platters. You may find some further useful info here:

Unfortunately for you, I see no realistic "DIY" possibility. There is a well-known member of this board in Sweden (mr_spokk) if you prefer to get another local opinion?

Sorry for the bad news :(

After reading your messages a few more times, I realise that there could be a language problem here. I think when you said the disk is "starting a few seconds ... then stop", that you are meaning the disk stops - i.e. the disk stops spinning. Or are you saying that after a few seconds the clicking stops, but the disk continues spinning?

Before you give up, I do suggest that you contact the member who I mentioned last time - but that's just my opinion :)
