Deep head test

February 29th, 2016, 12:19

Hello,

In order to see if heads are OK, can I measure points on the HDD with multimeter/oscilloscope? Does someone do thsi type of test?
Suggestions to test heads?

Thanks,

What I know to test with a multimeter is to check for motor problems. Not heads. I find it hard to be possible to check.
Even the head test of the tools aren't 100% full proof...

Some preamps have an ABHV / DBHV (Analogue / Digital Buffered Head Voltage) pin. I don't know whether current preamps have the same pin, but it appears that this pin senses the head voltage directly, before it is amplified. I could be wrong, though.
