I could do with some advice from all you pro's here.

:?: I'm in the UK preparing my new business venture comencing mid feb with a budget for tools and hardware of 35k. From what I understand a lot of that will be spent on PC3000 UDMA & DE (I have not yet contacted them for a personal quote). I do have figures from SD, I have had a small clean room / lab designed, building has started but not ready til Mid Jan 2010.

I need help with suggestions for the best tools for platter transplants/safe head removal/magnet extraction, should I go for SD,HDRC or can anyone else recommend any others or which platter / read-write head tools are the best in the current market. I was given a set of instructions to make my own head tools however the method is a bit long in the tooth and nowhere near perfect.

I did contact HDRC regarding other matters the email was never replied to, the chat I had with them was diabolical it was as if they were referring a big book to answer my questions, taking them ages to answer each question (i was able to boil the kettle & make a fresh cup of tea while waiting for the answer to one question), even then the answer from them was to another website link (which did not answer my questions). They only seemed interested in on site training at india with tools or selling training with tools. I sought training from another vendor, the trainer pointed me here for my research before investment.

If you would rather PM me to reply then please do.

Also can anyone PM me and let me know if building and preparing a pentium or amd machine will be better for the PC3000 UMD, can we use win 7 etc?

Thanks in advance

I am sorry to tell you that there really are no commercially available tools that truly work on modern HDD (I mean drives made ~2006 and beyond)

you will need to devise your own tools

that is not correct.

Well, of course there is helpdisc's tools that look very promising =)

How is the platter removal tool coming along? I am very interested in picking one up once it is completed.

I am surprised that with your "all seeing eye" you have not noticed the huge amount of competition with the UK.

Have you researched the never ending line of competition and concluded your onto a winner?

Just don't want to see someone waste 35k or their hard earned cash :?

good luck anyway

I stopped using these head tools due to the fact that:

1. Two head stacks were damaged by the tools.
2. No two head tools are the same. All are glued together by hand.
3. Set only has tools for about 20% of the drives we've worked on.
4. Tool gets stuck in head arm due to poor plastic molding.
5. Tool can easily fall out of the head arm.

Now I'm stuck with useless plastic.... 8)

I have nothing against HDRC and hate to say this, but I do not recomend these head tools. The concept is good but the quality is not there. When we purchased these I was expecting a one piece molded design and got glued together pieces of plastic. Tools are missing for drives that we perform head transplants on daily. Half the head tools in the complete set are for drives we rarely ever see or ever have head problems. After two head stacks got stuck and cost me more than the tools themselves we went back to our previous tried and true method. It may take a bit more time but at least its not costing me lost money in parts.

That 'engineer from HDRC' is actually 'Ed Lewis' who was in India to demo those tools just prior to entering into partnership deal with them for about 8 months or so, to sell his training course, Ed also informs me that he has had no affiliation with HDRC since early 2009. He told me he spent some time in the US and Canada before returning to the UK, his employers apparently use the CPR head tools which he swears by. And I know this how? Ed and I belong to the same UK motorcycle club, so we regularly chat after weekend ride outs, when he manages to stay on his ride, trust me this guy knows how to perform a 'head crash' haha. I shouldn't joke he was knocked off his machine a few weeks ago by a blind oaf in a 4x4, just yards in front of me.

The last piece of advice he gave me was to take a look at the SERT tool from http://www.computersciencelabs.com/news ... le-i46.php for stuck platters. Ed also mentioned that he hasn't tried one yet. .....yada yada enough about him.

Has anyone on this forum used the SERT tool?

I also decided not to invest my money into a DR company as suggested by others here and instead cancelled the bank loan then used my own savings to customise my ride and invest in my PHD so I will still be buying some tools for my research.

I just noticed from other pictures of the product and descriptions that HDRC forgot to include the adjustable head tools in my kit. We stopped using these head tools many many months ago and havent looked back. They are poorly made and useless. I can't believe they are still selling this.

Hi ,
I Have Happened To Visit HDRC Last Week And I Have Picked the Following tools

1 : Head stack Replacement tools
2 : Magnetic Head Exchanger
3 : HDD Workbench
4 : Motor Unstuck Tools
5 : Platter Swap Tool "Will Be Giving Later "

Well In HDRC the Company Is now Split Into Two Parts .the One At Nehru Place Is where Madam Sonia Does Physical Data Recovery Work Using these Tools For the Best Of The Best so Called Data Recovery Labs And Keeps Testing The Tools .Mr Gaurav Does Not Sit There Often He Has Another Office somewhere Else Where He Keeps Updating And Innovating tools .The Input He Receives At His Physical Data Recovery Lab Is Used Here In the Other Office To Update the tools .Well This is what i Advised Him .

1 : Please Start Writing the Version Of your Tools

This Will Help Him To Tell the Client What Version He Sold To them And What Current Version They Have Now .As Innovation Never Stops .Might Be If They Designed a Pissed Up Product Some times they Have a Better Tool Now .I disagree To the Fact It Remains Like This All The time .All His Tools Are Under Update Now ,Beautiful Stuff Is On The Way .My Physical Data Recovery Lab Is Under Renovation Once Done I Will share My Inputs with The tool .They Also Have a DVD Now Which Does Explain Many Things About the Tools .If Some Idiot Does Not Know How to Use Something Its As Good As Not Having It .

I love how you butt in with useless posts of your own or try to change the direction. It's very amusing. :boxing:

P.S. Don't forget to watch the DVD...

Re: HDRC UPDATE: Read Write Head Change Tools Review

i wouldnt go to call HDRC tools useless, but they are poorly made...

1 : Head stack Replacement tools : most are poorly made, some can be used without fear of heads touching

2 : Magnetic Head Exchanger : try removing a magnet on wd5000aaks, last one in my mind that magnet remover was too weak to handle

3 : HDD Workbench : dont have it from HDRC, idea of tray is kinda nice, but not in that position. Personaly i would never cross the open drive with screw to put in that tray...

4 : Spindle Motor Replacement Tool : dont have it so no comment here, but i guess you could buy a better drill machine stand for that money

5 : Motor Unstuck Tools : dont have them, but the handle they use costs 4$ in my local tools store and i am not from China :)

6 : Platter Swap Tool : i guess mine were very poorly made and have only tried them on none client drives and was not a good experience :(

P.S. Music on DVD could be better

Well ,
I comment and not butt In ,Secondly Its Not Your Dads forums Were Only you Have the right To Post OR Butt In .Instead Of Being Reasonably You Have the Habit Of Writing Nonesense Most Of the time .Next Time When you Are Free And Having Office Chill down and Do Not Access HDD GURU Cos Your Brain Stops Functioning sometimes .Reason Some Of your Posts Are Not even Relevant To the Thing ,In This Case I Have the Tools and I commented ,You also did ,Might Be I Have the Newer Version Then your ,and Do you Know They all Are Still changing I Mean New Version Is Gonna Be there This Month end .

PS :I Am Not Here On HDDGURU To check All The Nonesense You Keep Spreading Of Sd and thier Tools Like a Kid .Grown Up ,If You Do Not Like the Tools Garbage them and forget Them ,Buy whatever Is the Best In your eyes Or Ask BlackSt So That He Helps you Make your Own Tools  .right BL  .Guys Keep commenting As He will Never Stop What A Person IMHO

That was the exact response I was expecting from a character of your type. Threatened by something they know nothing about (I read your posts, you own nothing and know nothing) and responding in an immature fashion to protect their pride. I have nothing to prove to anyone and nothing to lose from amateurs with guru complexes.

Changes and improvements are always welcome, problem is old customers who are not satisfied with old tools will have a hard time buying new improved tools with confidence...
Anyway tools were learning experience for me and in DR learning always costs. :)
