we dont have any turn down we do recovery work for a lot of undisclosed clients

allso we spend a average of about $400 on parts

no recovery no fees to pay

we use hardware industry machine which cost A LOT OF MONEY

where no one on this forum will ever have or know what it is

Last year, you were just a computer repair shop that dabbles with data recovery. Now you have a machine that nobody on this forum even knows exists and never have a quote turned down? Something is not making sense here...you are starting to sound like CSSI. What company are you working for? I'd love to stop by and say hello the next time I'm in Toronto.

Maybe the recovery industry has to change the way it operates bringing in a more realistic pricing structure. At least charge a minimum fee for evaluation of large drives which might even include the cost of imaging, which can later be deducted from the clients final bill if the recovery is accepted.

If I go to my solicitor or lawyer he will quite happily take on my case. If we win he will charge me accordingly and if we lose he will charge me just the same!

allso big corporate company's example i wont give the name out
but they are well known

they where upset that they lost all there backups and system

company send the drives somewhere in the usa

they charged a cool $35.000
to get there file system and clients information back.

btw.......it's ridiculous that some people are charging flat rate no matter what the capacity is. Clearly, a 2 TB HDD is going to take far longer than a 60GB HDD and if you have overheads, you gotta charge on a capacity basis..........again, assuming one is running a professional operation (by no means am I inferring you are not btw Luke.)

ck its big business in Europe so i suppose there lots of business for yourself.

but other places its be different

if people really really need there data back

they pay what ever it will cost

but these are only big companys and not your member of the public.

in a way for you to survival you have to pay for your staff wages how many staff do you have under you
possible you have to pay for your building or renting it

so that more money you have to make


so high price 1tb i would say you charge about $1300 or less

2tb $2000

there so much competition now its unreal and you should know this

i use to get threats from rivals

Is that a viable business model? I tend to find 'family and friends' are the worst paid jobs in any field.
Anyway I think it would be better to educate them how to back up rather than recover their data.

We have almost equal number of clients who turn down the $300 quotes as clients who turn down $1250 quotes.

Who said I don't do things myself. I have hired and trained technicians to help me do the work. I cannot physically handle the volume of work on my own. Unlike you, we don't do anything other than data recovery. When I take a day off work, work gets done. With staff working for me, I can spend more time building partnerships.

you asked some really dumb qeastion that no data recovery person in the world would ask in a forum.



1)If the drive detects, are you doing a full clone before you check the file system to see if the data is accessible?

correct answer you would go direct to the file system itself.


2)Using DDI, it can take 11 hours to clone a healthy 2TB drive. If the client's file system is corrupt, it could take a couple of days to do a full scan of the drive.

correct answer is that you would never do a full scan of the drive you would target the data direct

the reason why i ask this because of your overheads you have to pay

there is something your doing wrong if your getting clients turning down those prices

this is amazing you asked some really dumb question in your thread
so im thinking if you know about data recovery to begin with why are you asking these dump qeastions

its more likely your technicians are doing all the work for you

if you look at some company's they do charge a minimum fee for evaluation of a hard drive

but if you look at other company's doing the same work

they say no fee for evaluation of the drive


the person with the highest price is not going to get the work
if they charge a evaluation fee


as the client can go to another company that does not
