I purchased a 4 platter head replacement tool. BAD Mistake !!

Everything about the tools I recieved is just disgraceful!

The tools really do look like someone just cut some grooves into some small plastic heads and glued them onto a stick.

If anyone is interested - I still have the original website image (that has been removed) of the 4 head replacement tool and a comparison image of the tool I received. The difference is apples and oranges. A $115 joke.

Bad Tools !

In the future, I will be setting up a web page to show images of the type of products HDRC says they offer compared with images of the products they actually ship.

Any input and/or images of tools previously purchased will be most welcome!

Thanks for your help.

The head spacer tools are great! As for the platter exchangers, I must admit that I was gravely disappointed. Two "identical" tools and only one would fit into the drive enclosure properly. I have noted several flaws that I've been able to work around with some modifications on my end.

With that all being said, I've reported my problems with HDRC and they assure me that they are making the necessary fixes to their tools and will be sending me replacements right away. (That was several weeks ago)

But, we must consider the price that they are charging. Even with the flaws, it is cheaper for me to get them in and make the modifications and it would be for me to build my own tools from scratch.

why dont you post here some pictures for we see it.

Here's a couple of images

One is of the image from their website (now removed) that looks like it's supposed to. Plenty of space between the tool heads. Slim tool head surfaces.

The other is what they actually shipped (sorry for the quality of the image).
The tools are unevenly spaced looking from the side, misaligned looking from the top (no image yet), and poorly cut at an angle instead of horizontal - looking at directly at the head mouths (no image yet).

As you can see - there's no room for the head arms to fit between the tool heads. The heads are bulbous instead of slim.
There is also a sizable gap between the tool heads and the surfaces of the platters (no image yet).

Have you used their tools to replace the heads on a 4 platter drive?

Did the "repaired" drive work when you were finished?

I know this thread is dead.... BUT ....

All my emails to HDRC for the past few weeks have either been ignored or have been returned as non-delivered....
They have my money, they're in India, what can I do other than complain and wish I could spend that money somewhere else. :x

If anyone out there reading this knows of a reputable source for a 4 platter head replacement tool - Please leave a comment or a reply!

I and everyone else looking for that tool or for a reputable source will greatly appreciate it !!

I see that they are online with Skype, though nobody is answering my message, right now. Their Skype account is hdrcskype, if you want to give that a try. If I make contact with them, I plan to invite them into this forum thread.

I finally got them on a chat session. I did not get the response I was expecting and I'm very disappointed. I'm giving them another week to provide the working replacement tools they promised me. After that, I will post my complete experience. I'm hoping that I will be able to say that their updated tools rock.

This might give an idea if we can't find a correct supplier.

Hi All Respected Members and viewers,

Thanks for the comments of these tools ,as H.D.R.C. Team, we was intrested to share our experience with Data Recovery World,we develop what we are using in physical data recovery ,these tools are like any other diffrent tools which are helpful in recovery process with some adequate practice i.e. if a person purchase one soldering iron with diffrent bits and think repair and rectify the pcb problem and do data recovery ,but without any practice or any judement with proper bit including the proper knowledge of pcb components, any person cant done the soldering job or rectify the pcb problem(may be without any practice or any knowhow of soldring or desoldring , the pcb will destroy forever or that component).
same as any other tool ,which we are using in normal data recovery world i.e.screw driver if any person is having one screw driver set to open the pcb but that person use the bit instead T5 in liu of T6/T8 to T7/T8 to T10 or vice versa may be that person will destroy the threads unknowingly..
Like any other tools ,HDRC tools are like that...
And definetily thanks the forum to make our strategy ,we may not sale our products and kit without training and also we prefer to the offline training as we are in the process to close the sale of our products without offline training..
Best Regards
H.D.R.C. Team

I personally don't see the problem being with the training. The tools and the procedure are straight forward. However, this process only works if the tools are built with precision and consistency. I just got word that Salvation Data has released an update to their platter exchangers to accommodate the spacer plates.

Has anyone tried them, yet?

I always use standard HPE Pro Premium to deal with spacers. It's enough
