I was working on small RnD (still going) which is Ident. WD Families via ROM file
Anyone tried it? or have some clues here?

yes, if you unpack ROM then you would find internal WD family number inside. FWs usually interchangeable inside one family but between different models, so Family ID is enough to identify the drive in terms of FW
